Infrared thermal camera to detect breast cancer

iRiS is a preventive solution consisted of a mobile application connected to an independent, small and easy to use module equipped with an infrared thermal camera. iRiS will allow women to scan their upper body area and detect breast cancer (if present) at its early stages .

The project is designed to use Intel Edison and a FLIR camera. and it was tested in Tunisia in addition to several other countries.More explanation in the video

Smart Hand

Smart Hand project was made to be a simple and easy solution to amputees who deserve the right of such a cheap and effective tool.

This Smart Hand doesn't need a surgical intervention: its Low cost and simplicity are due to the technical choices made to solve the given problem: using the hand muscles signals as inputs to control the titanium hand is more effective than doing a whole chirurgical intervention. Only a MYO sensor wa sufficient to translate muscle contractions to 0 and 1 : On/Off.

At the end of every finger, a pression sensor is used to calibrate the pressure in contact with the hands according to the given mode.

Through a mobile phone, it is possible to interact with the Intel Edison board then configure a pressure mode: Open door, Mouse mode, Phone tap mode or even taking an empty egg without breaking it

Treating phobia through VR exposure

Everyone is afraid of something, even if just a little. Everyone has a thing they fear the most sometimes to the point where the mere presence of that thing or situation incapacitates their mind, body and soul. This is how millions of people around the world feel. To many of them, something as simple as going out for groceries feels like walking through a minefield within a warzone. People who suffer phobias live in a constant state of alertness, scanning (conscious and unconsciously) their surroundings for the presence of these “threats” which can prevent them from having a normal life. The actual way of treating phobia by exposure therapy can be highly impractical, For example a person with the fear of flying cannot possibly be expected to buy a plane ticket on a weekly or daily basis.And this is where we come in …The solution is virtual reality.

Project Syndrome is a Virtual Reality application on Oculus Rift. The project consists on virtual reality exposure, instead of boarding a real plane, a person can simply put on a virtual reality headset and a pair of headphone that together simulate the experience. Every step of the way, the team working on this project consulted a qualified psychologist who helped design user-scenarios that can be both effective and helpful to the patient.

The goal of this project ‘SYNDROME’ is to design and develop a tool that can be used to detect or treat phobias. It consists on creating an innovative method that could be used to treat a patient with certain phobias. As a main tool we used Unity3D game engine, with this game engine we explored different ways to treat these mental conditions using a virtual reality environment for the population with phobias. Our project facilitates the task for the psychologist in order that he will not need to describe a scene to put the patient in the detection phase, but a specific scenes for each type of phobia was designed for him , it provides the user with real-life like scenarios in a 3D world, face him with some phobia triggers like heights, darkness and animals then use sensors to measure his body conditions like heartrate, amount of sweat on his skin and his body’s temperature in order to detect the impact of the phobia trigger on him and determinate whether he has the phobia involved or not. Our project is a revolution in the psychology field, in fact, each employer or partner who needs to detect a particular phobia in a candidate, can use our project “syndrome”, especially in the police sector, military … In the case of a detected phobia , the patient may access his psychological assessment directly at home thanks to our therapy strategy.

Impact

SYNDROME offers a truly immersive3D world because of the use of Unity and Oculus rift. Huge 3D world well designed to keep the users from getting bored each time they try to detect a phobia. Narrator to guide the user all along the detection situation. Accurate feedback through the use of dedicated sensors. Ease of use and interactions because of the use of Leap Motion. The preservation of physician–patient privilege through identification system No need for doctors to detect phobias. Therapy session can be done from home.

Help psychologists gain time and effort trying to identify to patient’s phobias and help them creating an immersive experience to reput the patient in a life like environment in order to manifest his phobias.

We see “SYNDROME”’ as having the scope to reach millions who currently are not connected with their inner- fears. We have worked alongside psychologists to develop the software which brings credibility in a nearly not discovered market opportunity.

Smart suitcase: a solution for every passenger problems

Salvo is the ultimate solution of the passenger problems: Salvo in English is a reference to salvation. In Italian and Spanish Salvo means safe. Salvo is a regular bag empowered with advanced technologies that will transform it into a smart object capable of communicating with its owner in order to give vital information like its location, its weight or its trip data. Equipped by his smartphone, the passenger will receive all necessary information about the bag’s position, weight etc.

The passenger will be able to lock the bag using his phone with a simple press of a button. Also if smartphone lost, the passenger still can lock his suitcase from the keypad located on its top. The LCD screen will provide the necessary information about the locker state.

If someone tries to force the suitcase to be open, Salvo will detect that movement of suitcase upper part or the change of luminosity. It will flash the thief and send a picture of him directly on the passenger smartphone. The phone app contains pictures of everyone who forced it to be open with the date and time and location. This consists of a solid solution, no matter what was the manner used to force the suitcase.

Salvo will deal the intruders and helps passengers getting to them and get back the stolen suitcase.

Salvo is also the answer to the location of suitcases offering two different ways of getting to it. The first one is through GPS. When GPS is accessible Salvo will send the location based on GPS locator.If not Salvo use the GSM connection. It sends the location using GPRS connection to the cloud and from it to the passenger smartphone. Salvo is provided with a chipset that makes it possible to have this connectivity facilities. Even if GPS or GSM are not working Salvo will also store its position in its memory and send them at the first moment he can reach out to the passenger.

Remote controlled signals for soccer players

Winspiritus presents a way of communication to simplify the interaction between the coach and players during training and games: change tactics , get statics, track player’s health signals…etc.

Winspiritus is solving the problem of the lack of communication between a football coach and his players. Instead of yelling and shouting, the coach can send vibrations and light signals to give them several orders like changing tactics or playing pressure.In fact, every player must have a glove ( will be a bracelet later ).

The commands are sent via a mobile app on a Windows Tablet and the communication is assured via the Xbee technology to assure low energy consumption and larger area covering.

The project was mainly targeting Intel Edison, but the size of the board was not adequate to the needs.

A smart Tshirt against rheumatic diseases

Problem

Rheumatic diseases are painful conditions usually caused by inflammation, swelling, and pain in the joint or muscles. Some rheumatic diseases like osteoarthritis are the result of “wear and tear” to the joints. Other rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, happen when the immune system becomes hyperactive; the immune system attacks the linings of joints, causing joint pain, swelling, and destruction.

There are more than 100 rheumatic diseases but we are trying to help arthritis and osteoarthritis patients.

Solution

Zshield offers to people affected with arthritis or osteoarthritis, a compression shirt that can help them reducing or preventing the pain and practicing some specific exercises.

Our compression shirt will be connected to our Windows Phone application, which will offer the feature of warming up the articulations ,to relieve and ease the pain.Via a mobile application , the user can practice stretching exercises and muscles building and get stats of his progress.the shirt can also give the user a massage targeting the stress zones via the mobile application.

Smart Book

The Smart Book project is composed of a mobile application and a real book with targets (QR codes/NFC tags), the use of these two tools together give us the ability to display an attractive and interactive content based on augmented reality and virtual reality. This is the new way of lecture based on new technologies that helps the learner to discover new information at the same time he is having fun. The book is a collection of images that are the Targets each page contains a learning theme such as geography, history, mathematics, etc…

To display the contents of pages (a set of models in 2D or 3D, Text, Images or Videos), the learner must point his smartphone’s camera to the book. In addition, this smart book can be explored through the Google cardboard. Once displayed the user can interact with the content using his fingers or using the smartphone buttons.

‘Let‘s meet’ is a 3D application offering to user the possibility to get inside a 3D virtual world using Oculus headset, in this world the user will be able to discover a new way of using the social networks. The user will be experimenting a unique experience in a virtual 3D world divided into several sections, each section represents one of the Facebook services (friend list, pages, groups…) with the ability to perform all kind of actions related to the service (chat, comment, share, like…)

The project is mainly based on audiovisual aids techniques due to several indications within the environment allowing the user to establish written and movement interactions.

“Let’s Meet” has been conceived and developed with a major optimization reducing its weight in terms of increasing the response time so that the user won’t be waiting for so long in order to remain faithful to the virtue of social networks. To meet the needs of user comfort we have designed an environment with high ergonomics guiding the user with clear and simple indication so that he can easily fulfill any interaction.

Knowing that Facebook has bought the oculus Rift headset and considering his notoriety within worldwide society by scoring 1,750 millions of active users. We consider that ‘Let’s meet’ may have major impact and the scope to reach over millions.
