the following is a selection of notes that we made around the project that we called « project Eko System » 4 grad students worked on it in addition of Nader Rahman & me :
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The continuous speed the life is changing during the last century, leads to days where time is so valuable that people cannot find time to live and work anymore. Life as the sum of all things to feel and take care of is submerged by work, transport and other occupation necessary to provide the money to live. Life incorporates in some step, time to care for babies and children. The need to monitor each activity of the baby, of the child can be satisfied in different ways among it through the technology means that people have access to these days but it still not enough. This need of monitor the ecosystem and the events the baby or the child is facing, is the same need to those who raise animals as fish , birds or even plants.
SOLUTION
‘Eko system’ is a collection of IoT based products that monitors an ecosystem of animals as an introduction to work on finally on a product to monitor a human baby. The idea is to start with a smart aquarium that interacts with websites and mobile devices displaying all the possible ecosystem signs as temperature, oxygen level... etc. and offers the possibility to watch the aquarium and monitor certain actions as feeding and changing water through website and mobile devices through a cloud based platform. This will be the Eko aquarium. The next step is to continue with the Eko cage for birds and Eko cradle for baby animals. The final step is to build the supreme product which is eko Babycare for real human babies. The plan is to commercialize all products step by step excepting the eko Babycare that will be left to an R&D section financed by fundings and the commercialized products.
EKO BABYCARE
‘Eko Babycare’ is basically a smart bed for babies. The bed is equipped with cameras to monitor the baby state remotely from anywhere. With VR technology grandparents and parents can view their babies and interact with them. ‘Eko Babycare’ is also equipped with smart sensors to monitor the health of the baby. Humidity sensors shows the state of the bed (or diapers) and Gas sensors may detect any abnormal gas level in the air. The solution is basically divided in three parts:
The IoT based equipment to collect the data and activities, a set of mobile apps and a website to monitor the activities, and finally a Cloud backend in order to process and analyze the data.
IMPACT
• This package of device and software is a revolution since it uses the emerging technologies to save time. A valuable time of work and business, and keep the good practices and sides of life: relationships between human beings and the other essential components of this ecosystem.
• The use of technology for good purpose can lead to different types of connections and may have huge impact to people who spend their life working because they have to, without losing the human qualities and abilities to care and raise.
• The idea and solution is meant to be a way to end with distance and time problem. A puppy, a bird or a child can be in touch with all members of family. People who care about animals can make their companions a subject of interactions and a point of interest in social media if they share their activities.
BUSINESS VIABILITY
There are mainly 4 steps to Eko system: Eko aquarium, Eko cage, Eko cradle, and Eko Babycare. Each product is meant for different category (fish, bird, baby animal, human baby). For each part there is a cloud based system using mobile devices and websites.
BUSINESS MODEL
Customer Segments: Mass market People raising plants, animal in cities/apartments/ places where it is hard to raise or adopt an animal/plant People having troubles managing their time and willing to maintain the habit/the need of adopting/raising an animal or plant The solution is destined to all ages, all sexes
