Bio
I am a Computer Scientist with a strong foundation in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence. I obtained my B.A. in Computer Systems Engineering from Antonio Jose Camacho University (Cali, Colombia) in December 2013. Additionally, I am a Microsoft Student Partner, a Microsoft Community Specialist and a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer. In the fall of 2015, I received a scholarship to attend Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), where I completed my master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence in the spring of 2017. My thesis addressed the development of a phenomics web-based image analysis platform using open source technologies. This platform will allow the scientific community, researchers and farmers to extract physiological information through an image-based crop monitoring process.
Prior to attending UABC I worked for the International Center of Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) in Cali, Colombia. CIAT is an institution focused on reducing hunger and poverty and improving human nutrition in the tropics through research aimed at increasing the eco-efficiency of agriculture. My main role was to lead and participate in the development process of software solutions to help researchers complete complex data analysis tasks. For my last year at CIAT I switched to the Harvest Plus program where I continued to work on web development. During this time, I gained experience in the development of mobile (Android and Windows phone 7, 8, 8.1) and web applications across multiple platforms (Java, .Net, Node.js, Python using Django, among others). I also gained experience in image processing using OpenCV and C++. During the first half of my time at CIAT I attended UNIAJC at night where I received meritorious recognition for my undergraduate thesis “Virtual Interpreter,” a communication tool for people with oral and auditory disabilities.
