Overview / Usage

With each passing day, industries and organizations are shifting focus from the deployment and day-to-day running of their IT facilities to cloud computing which presents a convenient way of accessing services, resources and applications over the Internet to provide an on-demand, self-service, and pay-as-you-go business model.
This research will aim to investigate the effects of various attacks associated with the smooth operation of these online services. Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attack caused by non-human activities such as application and infrastructural failure of cloud components (both hardware and software) which possess a threat to the operation of these service will be exploited and counter measures to mitigate against such attacks will be proposed. Such attacks results from system failure, network failure, power outages, design error, software bug etc.
The high availability of cloud resources is essential, as attack or failure of infrastructure would be catastrophic to both the providers and the end-users. Live migration of Virtual Machine (VM) which stands out as an efficient mitigation strategy against such failure will also be studied, as such, an optimization technique for both the migration time and downtime will be proposed.
