CodeWheels – Real code, real robot racing powered by Intel Curie!

CODE WITH FUN, RACE WITH PASSION! Program self-driving model racing car and compete with other players. Your code matters!

Virtual Reality, Intel RealSense™, Game Development, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence

Description

CURRENT status of my game is described here.

DESCRIPTION OF CODEWHEELS:

This game teachs players to program robotic racing cars to run on the track. Robots are similar for each player. Robots are powered by Intel® Curie-Arduino 101 board. Robot which will run the greatest number of laps wins the race. Robot for CodeWheels is a commercial product with Intel Curie onboard, you can buy my robot here bit.ly/roborover-m1-codewheels

Self-driving vehicles will be around us very soon. How students or programmers can reach big automotive companies? There is no sandbox for everyone who wants to start program and develop simple self-driving cars. I know answer on this question!

I have created a CodeWheels competition, where everyone can program self-driving model car and compete with other players on the racing track. CodeWheels is for fun and for education! Robots at CodeWheels competition are the same. Only control program has a difference. All teams have an equal chances!

Everyone can do small step into the giant and prospective future of the real self-driving cars!

MISSION OF CODEWHEELS:

Mission of CodeWheels is to attract makers, students in schools and universities, enthusiasts and programmers to program self-driving model cars, based on Intel® products. Throw the CodeWheels competition IT-companies and automotive companies can find new and prospective employees.

ADVANTAGES OF CODEWHEELS:

The main advantage of the CodeWheels is that no need to buy or develop robot. Each player before competition receives similar robot RoboRover M1 CodeWheels Edition and all necessary software! Only quality of code matters!

BASE PRINCIPLES OF CODEWHEELS:

The base principles of CodeWheels competition:

  1. For everybody who wants to program real things. Students, programmers, makers and enthusiasts with help of Arduino IDE and our API can start program robotic model cars to run on the track very fast.
  2. Players are in the equal conditions. Similar robots, similar track - different setup, different code. Now it depends on player how he can deal with task.
  3. If you win, give your source code for a looser. Winner, 2nd and 3rd player must upload their codes to GitHub. Only under license CC BY-SA 3.0 Creative Commons Share-alike 3.0. Viewing of the source code will give new players the opportunity to accelerate code their development.
  4. 99% of fun coding, 1% of technics. You can write the best code but during the race your robot can lose it’s wheels. Double check technical condition of the robot too:)

WHAT WE DID AND WHAT WE DO NOW:

  1. First in the history CodeWheels competition was held 16-18 September 2016 at the robotics festival "RoboFest-Belarus" at Minsk, Belarus. 11 teams-11 robots RoboRover M1 and more than 30 programmers took part at this championship. This CodeWheels competition was created by Maksim Masalski and his team Maxxlife Robot, which is manufacturer of RoboRover M1 robots and robots for education based on Intel® products.
  2. Second competition was held on the 23rd of November! Look photos in the gallery!

Now our team has only Russian language edition of the CodeWheels competition. International edition is under development.

ABOUT ROBOTS FOR CODEWHEELS: Intel Curie module is the main core of the robot! You can just program it by yourself using Arduino IDE and utilize all power of the Intel® Curie module which is situated onboard! Intel® Curie is very suitable for this task. With help 128 neurons inside Intel® Quark™ SE C1000 and 6-axis accelerometer-gyroscope inside Intel Curie you can create a learning algorithm and teach your robot turn the corners faster than others or teach robot ever you want. With help of the Bluetooth LE you can create telemetry for the robot. Just like in the real racing cars!

RoboRover M1 CodeWheels Edition has four wheels with four electric motors. RoboRover M1 is consisting of two floors. On the first floor are situated power electronics, electric motors, 2 infared proximity sensors Sharp (10-80cm) and battery box. On the second floor is control board, ultrasonic sensor mounted on the servo. Robot has a plastic body to cover all electronics. On this body competitors can place their logos and advertisement.
The main advantage that RoboRover M1 is quite cheap and our team can produce a lot of robots for the competitors. But it will be nice if competitors can buy our robots.

Now we are developing CodeWheels X game. Robots will be the same but instead of distance sensors will be Intel® RealSense™ camera with Intel® Joule and our software to program machine vision system for robot. But this system is very expensive and our team can’t produce a lot of robots for the competitors for free without any sponsors:( RoboRover M1 design is property of the Maxxlife Robot robotics team. We are situated in Minsk, Belarus. P.S. If you see that text has a grammar mistakes, do not hesitate to say about it:) maxxlife@mrobot.by

ABOUT ROBOTS FOR CODEWHEELS:
Intel Curie module is the main core of the robot!

But this system is very expensive and our team can’t produce a lot of robots for the competitors for free without any sponsors:(
RoboRover M1 design is property of the Maxxlife Robot robotics team. We are situated in Minsk, Belarus.

CodeWheels – Real code, real robot racing powered by Intel Curie!
