Real Time Communication is one of the field that can benefit from a great video codec. INTEL AV1 Implementation (SVT-AV1) benefit from an extremely high throughput compared to the reference implementation (libaom). CoSMo Software leverages WebRTC and INTEL codec to support AV1 in RTC. ...learn more

Overview / Usage
See most of the presentation on june 26 at Big Apple Video conference.
AV1 promises substantial bandwidth saving, but is just a codec. CoSMo proposes to integrates INTEL SVT-AV1 in the webrtc stack to enable all the applications based on it (including browsers) to benefit from it. Think Video Conferencing, gaming, VR, AR, Drones, IoT, anything that requires interaction through audio/video in real-time.
That would directly bring INTEL in par with Cisco announcement yesterday (june 26) to be the first to achieve real-time AV1 implementation in webex, on a commodity hardware.
Methodology / Approach
CoSMo is an expert in the WebRTC standard, tech and stack. They contributed, among other things the H.264 simulcast implementation used by all browser vendors today. We have been exchanging and working with the INTEL WebRTC Communication suite for several years now. We also are members of AOMedia, especially active in the real-time codec group, and this started as an implementation project to validate the nascent AV1 RTP Payload spec. Th original implementation is done with libaom, so some parts have already been validated (rtp chunking, payload, ....) and adding SVT-AV1 should be relatively easy.
Technologies Used
webrtc (webrtc.org)
SVT-AV1
right now mainly i7 and i9 CPUs, but we wouldn't mind getting our hands on one of those dual platinum XEON the SVT group uses for benchmarking.
