Overview / Usage

Quantum Leap is a fun case-mod that project that imagines what computers will look like when quantum computing becomes a part of home computing. Quantum Leap is inspired by photos of IBM's beautiful quantum computers that look like golden chandeliers. The Silent Base 802 White case will be modified for external watercooling and connected to my Watercool MO-RA3 420 Pro, which I completed in early November for my 10700K/Vega64 PC. If I'm selected to be a finalist, it would be a dream come true to use this heat exchanger on a 12900K/3070 build. I will be using the computer for PC gaming as well as playing with Intel Quantum Simulator, which is a heavily single-threaded application that can benefit from Intel Cryo and Intel TVB. If I'm selected as a finalist, I will make several videos related to the project. I will describe the build process step-by-step, including tools used. I will describe how to set V/F curves, load lines, and adaptive voltage by core, and overclocking using OCTVB. I will share a game benchmark that overlays the usage and boost profile of each core. I will make a video of how to install the EK-QuantumX Delta TEC EVO. I will also share an example of creating the state of a quantum register and extracting information from the quantum register using Intel Quantum Simulator.

Methodology / Approach

I am an experienced PC builder.

I will be drilling two 15/32" holes into the rear panel and securing inlet/outlet quick-disconnects. Two 8-foot EPDM water hoses will connect the case to the external radiator. I will also wire a custom power socket to the rear of the case and make a custom 6-pin SATA cable to power the radiator's 9 x Corsair ML140Pro fans and 2 x Aquacomputer D5 NEXT pumps. Inside the case, the CPU will be cooled by an EK-QuantumX Delta TEC EVO cooler.

Inside the water reservoir, I will fabricate a miniature model of a quantum computer using copper and brass. This will make the PC appear to be powered by a quantum computer.

The CPU waterblock, GPU waterblock, and reservoir will be hardlined using Swagelok 1/2" OD stainless steel tubing and rotary fittings. This will create a beautiful industrial look suitable for a quantum computer.

Technologies Used

Intel Overclocking Thermal Velocity Boost (OCTVB): On Intel 10th, 11th, and 12th generation Core rocessors, TVB allows the fastest 2 CPU cores to achieve higher boost frequencies than normal Turbo Boost if the processor is cooled below 70 C and is within power and current specifications. I would like to demonstrate 2-core frequencies as high as 5.8 GHZ on the 12900K.

Intel Cryo Cooling Technology: Intel Cryo Cooling Technology is a unique combination of software, firmware, and hardware that powers advanced subambient coolers designed to maximize PC performance and overclocking (source: Intel). The EK-QuantumX Delta TEC EVO is a CPU cooler that is compatible with Intel Cryo. It's a CPU water block combined with a peltier. The cold side of the peltier cools the CPU. The hot side of the peltier is cooled by the waterblock. A humidity sensor feeds data to Intel Cryo sofware many times per second, which automatically regulates the temperature of the cold plate to 1 C above dew point. This ensures the coldest possible CPU temperatures without the possibility of condensation.

Intel Quantum Simulator (Intel QS): An open-source distributed qubit register quantum simulator using OpenMP and MPI.
