Overview / Usage

Roboknights was the game that team Moosebear decided to make, at the start of their Junior year at DigiPen. A cute adventure game themed around robots, RoboKnights would evolve into the Excalibots as the year progressed. The goal of the game stayed the same though, sword collection!

After a year of working on this project, it came time for graduation. The game was submitted to get approval for a polish semester, even as half of the original team graduated and went into the industry. Only one designer and the artists remained! Having gotten approval for a third semester of work, they prepared to continue the game in the fall.

Enter Senior year. This was the final chance to polish Excalibots. Starting the semester with a bang, the team expanded to include more artists, all new devs, and a new producer. The start of the semester was bumpy as the team worked through the project that they had inherited. While the base of the game was great, a lot of work had to be done; much of the base code had to be refactor, the levels redesigned, and the art updated. This was hugely challenging, as there was only 14 weeks to get everything done. Less if you include the time spent unable to work on the game due to repository issues! However, Moosebear rose to the challenge, pushing their skills as hard as they could. The professors provided feedback weekly, trying to steer the game in a direction that made the best use of everyone’s skills. The end result? A quirky, charming game about a sword-obsessed knight that accidentally saves the kingdom in his quest for bigger and better swords.
