Overview / Usage

Chroma Chaos is a surreal bullet hell where you swap colors to assault monstrosities from another realm.

  • Switch to the Same Color as enemies to gain Immunity
  • Switch quickly before touching an enemy to Parry
  • Switch to the Vulnerable Color of an enemy to gain Critical Damage
  • Pick up Powerups gain Alternate Fire Modes
  • Fight Bosses at the end of each level

Methodology / Approach

The philosophy at the forefront of development was pushing a surreal artistic and musical aesthetic. Team members wanted the opportunity to gain skills to take with them into their own projects. The game was originally meant to be a rhythm game, but we felt the bullet hell genre gave a greater opportunity to implement a variety of ideas. Music and rhythm remained an important component, and all sound effects were made to be "musical" or play on beats of the song. The implementation of that was done through the FMOD audio engine. All graphics and sound/music were created from scratch for the project - no outside assets or resources were used.
