Overview / Usage

Today, cars able to drive autonomously move it's self through data relieved from sensors (ADAS System for example) or cameras and artificial intelligence mechanisms; these findings actually allow cars to move independently on a road and therefore position themselves at a certain speed in a given lane within a roadway. This methodology is functional if there aren't a component that disturbs the mechanism, the human one, probably if all the cars were driven only by computer systems there would be no major problems, even if, in any case beyond the human component many other external agents must be evaluated (weather conditions and horizontal and vertical signs).

So, idea to create a car interconnection mechanism through a device, that, allows the cars to be automatically interconnected to the network and, then to each other cars, generating an highly efficient network with mobile nodes.

Methodology / Approach

The idea is to split the network in small clusters where, there are some basic rules: the slower nodes, positioned at the right end of the roadway (in left-hand drive countries) become characteristic nodes for the cluster, these node will have the necessary data to allow the surrounding cars to know, how the maneuvering space is shaped, in addition, being main nodes, they are interconnected with the second most important node of the previous cluster (i.e. that node of the cluster positioned “at the top”, at low speed and to the right of all, that is, the node that will probably come out the cluster for penultimate).

So, the cluster is characterized by two fundamental nodes, one opening and one closing, the opening one contains the data of all the nodes that are coming while the closing one all the data on the cars in the cluster and those that are upon arrival, to be sent to the opening node of the next cluster in order to make known all the movements in real time - also of cars arriving at high speed - to the subsequent clusters.

This mechanism allows to avoid issue related to IT and human factors, in fact cars auto-adapt themselves to traffic conformation or, to any issue on the road that, clearly, are difficult to predict voth for AI systems that for a human, an example: a sudden accident could create panic between manually driven cars creating sudden movements, with an auto-adaptation and slow-down system, chain accidents could be avoided.

In addition to the above benefits, referring to the project (link) you could interact with the smart roads with the mechanisms indicated in order to create complex data structures containing informations that, otherwise are difficult to obtain.

The explained system in this project could create significant advantages both for human life and for the bureaucratic complexity, would avoid accidents, would make any vehicle really unique and traceable at any time and above all every car would become a real data collection and distribution vehicle .
