Codemasters GRID 2019 uses the latest version of the Codemasters EGO engine to display a wide variety of racing environments including complex time of day and weather simulation. This session details the Forward+ renderer supporting a high number of dynamic lights the game is built around. Topics include examples of how DirectX 12 Variable Rate Shading is used to optimize the per pixel shading cost while maintaining the high geometric fidelity of the cars and environments, we discuss some of the main changes and challenges Codemasters had making a DirectX 12 only title including async compute performance and memory management.
