Hacktoberfest: Help Celebrate the Advancement of All Things Open Source

Participate in this Month-long Global Developer Event Supporting the Open Source Community

Calling all developers: Join a worldwide open source developer network as we come together during the month of October for a fun-filled 31 days of “Hack or Treat!”

Hacktoberfest 2021 is a month-long celebration promoting the advancement of all things open source, drawing participants worldwide ranging from accomplished professionals to beginners and students. Hosted for the eighth consecutive year by cloud infrastructure provider DigitalOcean, Hacktoberfest offers many ways for developers to give back to their open source community through all kinds of direct participation: completing pull requests, attending or presenting at events, crowdsourcing code, mentoring, and even donating time, talent and financial resources to promising projects.

As a premium Hacktoberfest co-sponsor and one of the world’s leading open source software contributors, Intel supports this event by providing developer tools and resources for a range of project workloads. By assisting participants at every level of experience and capability, Intel furthers its goal of providing game-changing developer resources, and showcasing the open source talent that uses those resources.

Unlike traditional hackathons, which usually award prizes to the “best” projects, Hacktoberfest has something to offer everyone (besides useful knowledge and good fun):

  • All parties who meet certain specified criteria can receive a “swag bag,” including a limited-edition Hacktoberfest t-shirt.
  • “Contributors” earn a prize for submitting four valid pull requests.
  • “Maintainers” are rewarded for demonstrating four or more actions on unique pull requests.
  • “Engaged maintenance” of Hacktoberfest tagged repositories is rewarded.
  • Do you prefer a greener reward? All participants can opt out of receiving a t-shirt in favor of having a tree planted in the Tree Nation / DigitalOcean forest.

You can review detailed Hacktoberfest event rules and FAQs.
