Intel Developer Affinity Programs: July 2019 Highlights

Every month Intel Software Innovators and Intel Student Ambassadors influence and impact their local developer communities by showcasing Intel hardware and software through workshops, trainings, and project demos. See below for some of the highlights from June.

Macy Kuang at North America Google Developer Expert Summit

Innovator Macy Kuang shared productivity tips at the North America Google Developer Expert Summit. Her advice, “Just telling yourself to work harder is not the solution. We need to create a system to stop us from procrastinating.”

Bruna Pearson: Autonomous UAV Control and Mapping in Cluttered Outdoor Environments

Innovator Bruna Pearson’s paper on fully autonomous UAV applications was accepted for publication at IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (July/19). Her extensive experiments demonstrate that their approach excels in performing dense exploration within the required search perimeter, is capable of covering wider search regions, generalizes to previously unseen and unexplored environments and outperforms contemporary state-of-the-art techniques. Learn more about her project on Mesh.

Abhijit Gupta: First Prize Poster Presentation

Ambassador Abhijit Gupta won first prize in poster presentation at the “Curious Mind” event organized by IISER Pune and Merck with his presentation on the “Prediction of DNA Structure from its Sequence Using Machine Learning”.

Manorama Jha: Bangalore Developer Summit

Innovator Manorama Jha gave a talk about how artificial intelligence is the core component of mixed reality and how 5G will come into play to provide end-users with the complete immersive experience.

Risab Biswas: Identification of Pathological Disease in Plants – Powered by Intel Distribution of OpenVINO Toolkit

Innovator Risab Biswas published an article on medium.com discussing his project which uses an algorithim for the easy identification or classification of pathological diseases in plant species via a mobile or web application. The entire system is an intelligent framework that enables users to identify a pathological disease via a deep learning and computer vision based smart system – users merely need to open the app, click a picture, and view the result. Learn more about this use case.

Bruce Hopkins: Conversational Agents with NLP Architect for AI Applications at the Edge

Innovator Bruce Hopkins articles how to utilize NLP Architect for AI-for-Edge computing devices. He discusses how to install and configure the software and provides the source code for a Java client app to invoke the server and get a response in under a second. Read the article.

Alex Porter at SIGGRAPH and More

Innovator Alex Porter was on one of SIGGRAPH 2019’s most anticipated panels: Technology and Ideas that Break through Barriers. She joined industry thought leasers that are taking XR to a deeper level by mindfully representing the authentic world we live in with regard to the tech we rely on. Read an article on the talk from Markets Insider. Also check out her blog on Finding Your Village in our Modern Society at Immersive Directory.

Justin Lassen: Black Fox Society – Vault

The grand culmination of many years of Innovator Justin Lassen’s work on a spatial audio library was published. Thousands of layers of samples and processing and design were used to create hundreds of living, breathing, spaces with deep storylines and imaginative caverns of thought and storied architecture that sounds amazing. Each ambient design is a world and story in and of itself complete with a narrative starting point. Check it out here.

Alessandro de Oliveira Faria: Intel Software Day in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Innovator Alessandro de Oliveira Faria gave a talk on how to use artificial intelligence and the openCV library, including some concepts and computer vision techniques demonstrating for programmers that deep learning isn’t always the best solution.
