Overview / Usage

I have been attending gaming (LAN Party) events for the last 20 years. Because the theme of this contest is "LAN PC Build", the planned PC Project is a PC that is powerful enough to play top tier games at a LAN Party, impressive enough aesthetically to turn heads amongst a sea of high-end gaming computers, and engineered with traveling in mind.

The PCs I build tend to have a retro/industrial theme to them, because I love the contrast between vintage electronics, used industrial items, and clean cutting-edge computer components.

The plan would be to build an all-in-one, air cooled, Micro ITX system, with a powerful GPU, SFX Power supply, and only using M.2 SSDs. The goal being to build an extremely portable system while staying within a small footprint. A system designed to easily be taken apart for travel by someone that is not experienced in PC building, and just as easily be put back together at the destination.

Being an all-in-one system ideal for LAN Parties, it will have the monitor integrated into the PC chassis.

The base will be made out of wood, with a dark multi-color stain, and the Intel CPU or GPU name scorched/burned into the wood base. The top of the base will hold up a corrugated steel panel that will hold the PC components on the back side, and the monitor on the front.

Power cables and motherboard rear I/O cables will be routed down into the base, terminating into panel mounted connectors on the rear of the base unit.

The PC will consist of an ITX Motherboard, I7 or I9 Intel Core CPU, 32GB of Memory, M.2 Drives totaling 1 to 2 TB of storage, and a GPU powerful enough to play modern titles. Intel technologies will be used play modern titles, record gameplay, and to process/edit the gameplay videos.

Methodology / Approach

I will be using pine wood pieces for the base, cut to size, and stained multiple colors to give the wood an aged and distressed look. A technique I have successfully used in the past.

The corrugated steel panel I will use for the top, is something I picked up at an estate sale recently, with the intent to use on a mod one day. This seems like the perfect opportunity to put it into a project.

I acknowledge that projects of this type are sometimes difficult to visualize, I suggest visiting my website to get a better idea of how I bring retro/industrial modern PC projects to life. Website is listed in the external links section of the Project.

Technologies Used

I plan on using an Intel 12th Gen Core Processor, and Arc GPU if available.
