Description

SALADINA is a home hydroponic kit, for salad culture at home. Indicated for vegans! Using Intel Edison, Nodejs, groove kits and cutting the structure with a laser cutting we have produced a kit home made for the production of edible vegetables by hydroponics culture.

Saladina is a horizontal hydroponic cultivation system that uses new digital technologies for the indoor home cultivation; it allows the cultivation of edible plants, healing herbs, decorative plants, etc. In the Saladina cultivation system the plants are placed in a solution of water with organic nutrients and natural and biologic origin minerals. The system is able to control all the useful parameters for the growth of the plants and shows all the warnings on a display; this allows to keep the optimal environment for the plants. With this prototype is possible to adapt different cultivation necessity of green plants, fruit plants and flowers by controlling the numbers of hours of sunlight and the quantity of nutritive solution. We can consider Saladina as a micro bioponic vegetable garden, realized in a portable structure with a hexagonal shape inspired by the honeycombs, where the honeybee assignments are carry-out by the smart board Intel Edison. The structure is composed by modular wood elements that are sliced by the cut laser machine Trotec; at the bottom is placed the “lower bowl” which is filled with water and nutrient solution; in this part are mounted sensors to control environmental parameters like oxygen, temperature, pH and conductivity; at the top is placed the “cultivation bowl” where the plant lives, this part is equipped with a “level pipe” mounted in the bottom of it; this pipe is used to maintain constant the “cultivation bowl” level and connects it with the “lower bowl”. The water must circulate from the “lower bowl” to the “cultivation bowl”, and this is obtained using a micro pump placed in the “lower bowl” that pumps the water to the “cultivation bowl”; the exceeding water flows to the “lower bowl” across the “level pipe”. This system is a closed circuit cultivation because the same water is continuously pumped in the “cultivation bowl” and returns to the “lower bowl”. Saladina can be controlled via wireless using a smartphone or any other device connected to the web and it responds to different green wishes, like the vegetable auto-production, the green design, the study of the plants, etc. The structure of Saladina is easy to built due to its simple joints and even if it uses innovative sensors they are cheap and easy to find. Furthermore is “nature friendly” because it doesn't stole soil from the country and it doesn't waste water, indeed the water is used at least for a week. The healthiness of the cultivation is guaranteed because with Saladina you don't need to use chemical pesticides, giving good productivity, quality and eco-friendly products.
