Overview / Usage

The latest and the best from german animation-studio renderbaron - Visual Effects & 3D-Visualisations.
All 3D-stuff is done with Cinema 4D and proudly rendered on CPUs with the C4D-internal engines "Physical Render" or "Standard Render". Compositing is done with After Effects.

Visuals: renderbaron, Düsseldorf/ Germany
Music: Shmearfink - Sunset Boulevard

Methodology / Approach

  1. I am focused on "Shading, Lighting & Rendering" for Cinema 4D as I am teaching these topics as a Maxon Certified Lead Instructor. As some kind of personal discipline all approaches on lighting seen in the work above are done with Local Illumination only. This gives me absolute control over every lighting parameter and speeds up rendering of animations in my CPU-based pipeline. My lighting process is additionally backed up with some light sensitive shader setups adding Ambient Occlusion and diffuse illumination only in core shadow areas.

  2. All landscaping shots in the showreel above are based on procedural modeling and shading - with the native materialsystem of Cinema 4D only. Basis for complex shader-setups are layered Noises, FallOffs, Gradients and other dynamic shaders of Cinema 4D.

  3. All volumetric elements in the showreel above (clouds, fogs, nebula, plasma arcs) are done with a technique based on 3D Noises, (except clouds in the Houston River shot, these are done with Ozone Cloudfactory)
