#IWD2019 Digital Transformations in Porto Sant'Elpidio (Italy)

#IWD2019 Digital Transformations in Porto Sant'Elpidio (Italy)

The days around IWD here in Italy, but as far as i can tell all around the world, are usually characterized by a growing care about the deeds of women who have done great things in some field, the women’s social, political and economical achievements and the analysis of the violence suffered; the IWD is the time when we try to meditate on what has happened and how much still needs to be done.
That’s because around the last IWD I, us, and my small group of women in technology, we try to set-up some event where we share experiences, talk about our work, discuss our achievements and definitely try to highlights models, women role models to younger friends and to anyone likes to participate.

What we organized during #IWD2019 with the support of Intel Software near Ancona in Italy (in Porto Sant’Elpidio, my hometown, to be precise) was a meeting to highlight local women that live, work, study in science.

That meeting was also different to the previous we set-up in the last years: this year we had the active co-organization of the Local Equal Opportunity Commission and the Municipality of Porto Sant’Elpidio, which borrowed also an awesome location for the meeting.

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Biomedical engineering, Telecommunications engineering, all these were the main topics covered during the meeting, by our awesome female speakers (Donata Petrelli, Laura Burattini, Maura Mengoni, Irene Paoluzzi, Gioia Feliziani, Francesca Tosi); all news worthy and passionate women that talked us about their projects and their jobs.

About 60 attendees, with more than a half composed of young girls still looking for their direction in the world of study and work career, followed the story of the daily work of our scientist speakers and, hopefully, understood that there are womens that work and even sometime succeed in science, that there are women that love and daily undertake challenges in science, engineering, software development and math.

Let me introduce a little bit the speakers:

Donata Petrelli
Mathematician specialized in the Artificial Intelligence field. She works at a few projects as data scientist, developing algorithm in the financial field.

Laura Burattini

Maura Mengoni

Gioia Feliziani
